Horchata has been taking the internet by storm. Who knew such simple flavors could cause such a craze. While GNC makes every effort to carry all of your favorite flavors, some pop up quickly and seasonally. And then don’t stick along long enough to put it on our shelves! We noticed an influx of customers searching for horchata protein powder on GNC.com, and since we didn’t carry it, tried to get creative to give you what you want. Enter, Horchata: Protein Shake Edition!
WHAT IS HORCHATA?
So, what is horchata? Horchata is a traditional Mexican beverage blending the flavors of vanilla, cinnamon, and sugar. That’s it! The recipe mimics what you’d expect from a delicious rice pudding dessert.
Traditional Mexican horchata calls for soaking rice in water overnight, then blending, straining, etc. It’s then mixed with milk, vanilla, cinnamon and sugar. So fancy, so time consuming! Naturally, I took the easy road – with store bought, unsweetened rice milk. It provided that earthy rice flavor horchata is known for and worked just fine!
Simply combine rice milk with a scoop of vanilla protein powder, a dash of cinnamon powder, and voila! Serve over ice to experience the perfect high protein horchata to sip, enjoy, and feel pretty darn good about.
Bonus… you can make this horchata recipe any time. If you bought a big ol’ tub of the flavor and were only feeling it for a handful of shakes, you’re stuck! Since this one calls for vanilla protein powder, you can do the horcha-cha-cha as little or much as you like!
INGREDIENTS
- 6oz of rice milk, unsweetened
- 1 scoop GNC Pro Performance 100% Whey, Vanilla Cream (per the directions of use noted on GNC Pro Performance 100% Whey)
- Dash of cinnamon powder + an extra sprinkle!
INSTRUCTIONS
- Combine all ingredients in a shaker bottle.
- Give it a good shake!
- Pour over ice.
- Dust with an extra sprinkle of cinnamon powder for presentation.
- Sip and enjoy!
